I got an error message when running JSF 1.1 with JBoss 4.0.5. I know what you’re thinking, you’re thinking “why the hell this guy is using such an old App Server”. Most of my clients are big corporates and most of big corporates are using only test-proven solutions and frameworks. So one of my clients decided to use JDK 1.4 for a new project. I’m using JBoss 4.0.5 because it’s the last stable version which compiled and runs under JDK 1.4, based on the matrix. Here is the error:

I got a sister currently living in Perth, Western Australia, who’ll held her wedding at January 31st, 2008. I’ve already got vacation permit for two weeks from my employer. I’ll be departing from Frankfurt International Airport at January 25th, and will be arriving at January 27 (yep, it’ll take about two days). Here is the Sneak Preview of the wedding.

In my last entry I complained about RedHat/JBoss Developer Studio IDE for not being free anymore. It was free in the beta, but in the final release it costs about 99 US$/year. And that made me thinking, what actually other IDEs cost. In a parallel project by a pharma group, I am using IBM Rational Software Architect as the main development environment. It’s nice actually, in many aspects better than RedHat/JBoss IDE, so I could already guess that IBM Rational is more expensive than JBoss, but I don’t think the price is hell out of JBoss’ league. Just see this screenshot from IBM’s website:

Got what I mean? It’s 7.048 Euro, about 10.308 US$. That means for a license of IBM Rational Software Architect, you could buy 100 years license for JBoss/RedHat Dev. Studio!

RedHat finally released RedHat Developer Studio IDE and rename it to JBoss Developer Studio 1.0. I’ve been using the beta version since September 2007, and it has been working well for me. Built-in Struts and Seam integration, pre-configured JBoss, Eclipse WTP based, everything has just been working well. Most of the bugs I got (PermGen memory, JSP’s Validation) were Eclipse’s (or Tomcat’s) bugs, not the IDE’s. Actually I’ve been pretty happy with it. But as they reached the final version and threw the beta status away, it isn’t free anymore. It costs, like usual for RedHat, $99 for one-year subscription. I know $99/anno doesn’t mean the world and my company will pay without asking but seriously I kept thinking of MyEclipse plug-in or just the original Eclipse WTP.

It’s been 4 months since I’ve started working at my new employer. My impressions so far have been positive: nice office, (rapidly) growing business volumes, casual working atmosphere, interesting projects, yet many colleagues with outstanding IT ability. The money isn’t bad either And every month we got incentives for some people who achieved outstanding performance. Guess what? I got the incentive for November 2007 Two vouchers for wellness trip in a 4 or 5 stars hotel (I’m not sure) in Germany, the value was about some hundred Euros. To be honest, I don’t know what I should do with it. I don’t like massage, I don’t like sauna either. I am kind of person who prefer ‘manual’ sport activities than going to gyms or saunas. Well, I’ve been told about the possibility to exchange it with another stuffs if I don’t like the incentive. Surely, I will ask for a technical gadget better than the vouchers.

I found this entry about working in Germany from a scholarship mailing list blog. It is about motivating (Indonesian) people to work in Germany as skilled labour in high tech area. Some of the comments were interested and some remained sceptical. Funny is that those who were sceptical are people who graduated from german universities or at least, still studying in Germany. From my sight, I do see that Germany has a shortage of high qualified skilled labour. I have been working at some typical german’s main corporates, and I saw how long it needed before a vacancy could be occupied. But it doesn’t mean that anyone, even one who doesn’t speak German at all and never been in Germany could easily find a job in high tech sector.

I got a new job. I have been working at several big companies such as Siemens AG, BMW AG and ERM GmbH. Though I did the IT job, but none of them is a ‘pure’ IT company. Now I got an offer to join an IT company which is also one of the biggest solution provider in Europe. Actually, I got many offers, but this company attracted me the most.
